Biodiversity and Environmental Awareness Programme for school students on World Environment Day

As part of the World Environment Day celebrations on 5 June 2026, the Departments of Botany and Zoology of Zamorin’s Guruvayurappan College organized a Biodiversity and Environmental Awareness Programme for students of Government U.P. School, Pokkunnu.
The programme aimed to foster environmental awareness and scientific curiosity among school students through interactive learning experiences. An engaging session on environmental conservation and biodiversity was conducted by Dr. Arun Kumar T.K., Dr. Sreejith, Dr. Sindhu K., and Dr. Sudheer K. The resource persons interacted with the students, highlighting the importance of protecting natural ecosystems and preserving biodiversity for future generations.
As part of the visit, the students were taken through an exhibition showcasing various plant groups. A major attraction was the display of a live insectivorous plant, Nepenthes, which fascinated young learners and sparked discussions on plant adaptations and ecological diversity.
The students also visited the Zoology Museum, where preserved specimens representing diverse animal groups were exhibited. The exhibits provided valuable insights into animal diversity and conservation.
Another highlight of the programme was a guided visit to ACHUDEMIA, the Botanic Garden of Zamorin’s Guruvayurappan College, where students explored a wide range of plant species and learned about their ecological significance.
Accompanied by their teachers, the students actively participated in the program, enthusiastically engaging with the faculty and asking numerous questions. Their keen interest and curiosity reflected the program's success in inspiring young minds to pursue science and environmental stewardship.
The visit concluded with positive feedback from both students and teachers, making the programme a meaningful and motivating World Environment Day initiative that strengthened awareness about biodiversity, conservation, and the importance of scientific learning.
