Star Tree Forest Inauguration

The institution successfully launched the “Star Tree Forest” initiative on 7 July 2024, marking a significant milestone in its commitment to environmental conservation and sustainable campus development. The programme was formally inaugurated by the Honourable Minister for Forest and Wildlife, Sri A.K. Saseendran, whose presence added exceptional value to the occasion and inspired the academic community to strengthen their environmental stewardship.
The event commenced with a brief welcome address, highlighting the objectives of the Star Tree Forest—namely to enhance campus biodiversity, create a green learning space, and promote ecological awareness among students. The plantation site was prepared in advance as part of the institution’s long-term afforestation plan.
Distinguished dignitaries, including Dr. Anoop K, Nature Club Convenor; Dr. Sreejith P.E.; Dr. Rajani B, Principal; Dr. Jayakumar; and Sri Aswin Vijayan, graced the event with their active participation. Their presence underscored the collaborative commitment of the administration, faculty, and student community in promoting environmental sustainability.
Following the inauguration, the Minister delivered an encouraging message emphasising the importance of native species conservation, student participation in ecological restoration, and the role of educational institutions in driving green initiatives. His words motivated the gathering to uphold environmental responsibility in both academic and community spheres.
As the central part of the programme, students and faculty jointly planted a variety of tree saplings in the designated plot. The participatory plantation drive symbolised collective ownership of the green space and reinforced hands-on learning about biodiversity enhancement, carbon sequestration, and habitat creation. The activity also provided an opportunity for students to gain practical insights into ecological management and the long-term benefits of afforestation.
The Nature Club played a pivotal role in coordinating the event, with Convenor Dr. Anoop K guiding the plantation process and ensuring scientific selection of species suitable for the local ecosystem. Faculty members and volunteers extended their support by assisting in pit preparation, sapling placement, and initial watering.
The Principal, Dr. Rajani B, appreciated the collaborative spirit displayed by students, faculty, and guests. She reiterated the institution’s vision of developing a sustainable and environmentally conscious campus through such initiatives.
The event concluded with a pledge to protect and nurture the planted saplings, ensuring their sustained growth. The “Star Tree Forest” will serve not only as a green lung space but also as a living laboratory for future biodiversity studies, nature education, and eco-club activities.
The launch of the Star Tree Forest stands as a proud testament to the institution’s dedication to conservation, green technology adoption, and environmental awareness, aligning with national and global sustainability goals.
