The Women Development Cell of Zamorin’s Guruvayurappan College organized an insightful and socially relevant talk on the topic “Sthreepaksha Niyamangal: Sadhyathayum Parimithiyum” on 16 October 2024 at the Seminar Hall. The resource person for the session was Adv. P. M. Athira, noted social activist and legal practitioner, renowned for her contributions towards women’s rights and gender justice.
The programme was presided over by Dr. Rajani B, who in her presidential address highlighted the importance of legal awareness among women, especially in the context of increasing social challenges and the need for empowerment through knowledge of law. She emphasized the role of educational institutions in fostering gender sensitization and supporting women-centric initiatives.
Adv. P. M. Athira delivered an engaging and informative talk focusing on various women-protection laws, their practical applicability, and the limitations faced in real-life implementation. She discussed key legal provisions related to domestic violence, workplace harassment, and constitutional safeguards, while also reflecting on social barriers that hinder enforcement. Her interactive presentation encouraged active participation and raised significant awareness among the audience.
The session was attended by students, faculty members, and Women Development Cell members, who expressed appreciation for the relevance and clarity of the talk.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Arya Gopi, IQAC Coordinator, who acknowledged the resource person, dignitaries, organizers, and participants for making the event a success.
